Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs)-Cell

Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) are groups of people who face challenges in accessing quality education due to a variety of factors, including economic, socio-cultural, and historical reasons. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the need to address the issues of students from SEDGs and increase their participation in higher education.

Some examples of SEDGs include:

Gender identity: Women and transgender individuals.
Socio-cultural identity: Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and minorities.
Geographical identity: Students from villages, small towns, and aspirational districts.
Disabilities: Including learning disabilities.
Socio-economic conditions: Migrant communities, low income households, children in vulnerable situations, victims of or children of victims of trafficking, orphans, and the urban poor.
